Study Club Live – Paul’s Case: A Clark Gable Smile and Locator Attachments

I’d love you to join me for the next Study Club Live, where I’ll be walking you through Paul’s case — a patient who needed replacement dentures: a new upper complete denture and a redesigned implant-supported lower overdenture using Locator attachments.

Paul didn’t have any reference photos of his natural teeth — but he looked strikingly like Clark Gable. So, we based the smile design on Gable’s iconic grin, right down to the midline diastema and lower tooth imbrication. Rowan, my technician, did an outstanding job bringing it all to life.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

We had to:

  • Re-polish the dentures to remove surface texture

  • Reline the upper in the lab for better fit

  • Drill out and reprocess the Locator housings chairside to ensure accurate seating on the lower

The end result was excellent — but the journey there offered lots of practical learning points. From the aesthetic planning to the technical challenges, I’ll take you step by step through the case, sharing what worked well (and what didn’t).
