I recently received this heartwarming message from a colleague in Scotland, and it truly made my day. It’s a perfect example of how the techniques I share can positively impact patient care and the work of fellow dentists. I'm delighted to know that the guidance on my website is helping professionals create dentures that improve the quality of life for their patients. Here’s what they had to say:

Dear Finlay,

I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for the incredible work you're doing in educating colleagues on denture techniques.

Recently, one of my young associates, who has been with me since his VT days, created two immediate dentures following tips and guidance from your website. One was an upper denture for a 95-year-old patient requiring extractions, and the other was a lower denture for a 75-year-old patient who needed multiple extractions due to periodontal disease. I had the opportunity to review these cases while my associate was on holiday, and I must say, the quality of both dentures was truly phenomenal—by far the best immediate dentures I have seen in my years of practice in the UK since 2005.

Having seen dentures done on an industrial scale by many dentists over the years, I was truly blown away by the precision and excellence my associate achieved by applying your advice. It’s clear that your teaching has a significant impact, even for younger practitioners, and the difference it makes for patients is evident.

I had the pleasure of meeting you in person at one of your courses, and you left a lasting impression on me as a truly inspiring individual. I hope this feedback makes its way to you and brings you as much joy as your teachings have brought to our patients and my practice.

Once again, thank you for your dedication to improving the quality of denture care through education. Your work is truly invaluable.

Warmest regards,

About Finlay

I am a specialist in prosthodontics based in the UK, having specifically chosen to limit my clinical practice to the discipline of dentures.

I love providing comfortable and life-like dentures which profoundly improve a patient’s quality of life.

I love teaching dental professionals how to provide state-of-the-art dentures. As well as demonstrating the techniques in producing optimal functioning and natural looking dentures another important aim is to ignite enthusiasm for removable prosthodontics proving that dentures are a valid treatment modality even in the age of dental implants.

Complete Denture Course: Hands-on Learning with Real-Life Insights from Kate, Our US Demo Patient

Last week, I ran another Complete Denture course using Kate, an American patient, as the demo case. We had delegates from the Netherlands, India, Romania, and Ireland. It was a fantastic two-day event packed with hands-on and hands-off demonstrations. Kate, who adapted brilliantly to her new dentures, shared her honest experiences with the group, giving real-life insights into wearing complete dentures. The course provided practical tips and techniques that can be immediately applied in clinical practice—great energy and engagement all around!

Study Club Live 4 Restoring Jan’s Smile: Complete Dentures Inspired by Her Daughter - Finlay Sutton

This month's case features the complete denture provision for Jan, a healthy 66-year-old who desired a smile mimicking her daughter's. Back in the 1990s, a growth was removed from her anterior mandible, and the area was skin grafted. Interestingly, she was still using the same complete dentures made over 30 years ago, which was now very worn. The tooth positions were incorrect too, with the upper teeth placed to far back over the ridge giving poor lip support. The lower denture included an extension at the front to fit over the altered anatomy.
